Sliding-contact bearings are also known as plain or sleeve bearings. They have a sliding motion between their two surfaces, which is reduced by lubrication. This type of bearing is often used in rotary applications and as guide mechanisms. In addition to providing sliding action, sliding-contact bearings are self-lubricating and have high load-carrying capacities.
